Stellar Series Spotlight: Pies & Peril (Culinary Competition Mystery #1) by Janel Gradowski

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000031_00001]Growing up books were my sanctuary. I would curl up and read with my pets, my cousin’s pets when I was sleeping over or just visiting her house. Christine’s pets ranged from birds to cats to dogs to ducks to turtles! I definitely hold “story time” with Petey, Kim, Yim, Cocoa, Sammie, General, Fifi, Daisy, Donald, and the rest of the menagerie as a precious memory during a turbulent childhood.

I had a bunch of books, comics, and magazines at the beach, on the boat, in the car, at the doctor, at picnics, sitting poolside, at school, and visiting my ma’s family. I always had something with me to read. As a child, reading was my escape, my haven and my stillness from an extremely chaotic upbringing and it is my bliss, my calmness and my refuge as an adult.

I have been challenged, encouraged, and solaced by the written word.

I will share my new favorites and all-time beloved reads with you in my Spotlight Titles. I hope you discover or rediscover a cherished friend.

Book Review: One Little Wish by Gina LaManna

GL OLW Book 1Synopsis: In this southern cozy mystery, Mack Montgomery gets his second chance at love. But first, a dead body, a high school reunion, and a feisty heroine get in his way.

My thoughts: Gina LaManna is one consummate storyteller. LaManna’s writing is flawless. LaManna’s storytelling is enchanting.

LaManna is such a vibrantly evocative scribe I felt my skin glisten and congeal with dust and grime from the Texas heat Scarlett endured walking down Main Street in Luck, Texas in the midst of bone chilling -19 degree temps!

One Little Wish is breathtaking, enthralling and heart-wrenching.

The cast of characters are masterfully crafted, delightful, eccentric, and high-spirited. Scarlett is authentic, energizing and thoughtful. Scarlett Powers is the best fictional heroine to come along in ages!

One Little Wish sparkles with the ache, force, intelligence, mystery, proficiency, and sentiment for which LaManna should be celebrated for!

One Little Wish is the gem which places LaManna firmly in the ranks of literary star status.

Book Review: Every Waking Moment by Meryl Sawyer

MS Every Waking MomentSynopsis:

He Is Watching…

A series of personal misfortunes have left Taylor Maxwell reeling. Even a sexy new neighbor in her South Beach apartment complex has no effect on her — except to make her uneasy. Taylor is suspicious of Shane Donovan’s interest in her, and she doesn’t know why…

He Is Waiting…

Shane is the last person Taylor expects to see at her mother’s house. Recently diagnosed with cancer, Taylor’s mother now wants to find the daughter that she had put up for adoption years ago — and she’s hired Shane’s security firm to help.

He Is Ready To Kill…

When a woman is found who may be her mother’s child, Taylor and Shane don’t buy it. There’s too much at stake — including millions of dollars — to take anything or anyone at face value. Just as Taylor’s misgivings about Shane begin to change, her newly discovered sister is killed. Unknown to Taylor, someone has been thriving on the chaos in her family, a devious and patient killer who is playing a game he intends win — at any cost…

Review:

Every Waking Moment was my introduction to Sawyer’s yummy romantic thriller.  Sawyer laces Every Waking Moment with family conflict, romantic fireworks, chilling suspense, and heat. HEAT!

The steamy drenched backdrop for Sawyer’s expertly plotted, notably engaging novel is SoBe (South Beach) and the Keys (Florida Keys), which is a character all its own. Sawyer won me over with a credibly flawed cast and a well-written plot that doesn’t waver once. How is that so? Simple – Sawyer has impeccable storytelling skills.

Sawyer validates her talent, illustrates her twists and doesn’t box herself into a corner with a “great idea” and drops the ball because she was lacking the chops to execute the move.  Sawyer brought home the gold and the verity is contained within the 416 pages of Every Waking Moment.

Sawyer has crafted a sharp, unforgettable tale filled with passion, chills and enough fervor to keep you turning the pages at a rapid pace.

Sawyer is a glimmering pearl in the desert heat and not an author to miss.

Stories You Should Not Live Without: Destiny’s Spell by Susanna Collins

Reading DS MoreFor as long as I can remember, reading has always been among my ultimate passions. I remember when my mom and grandma surprised me with the monthly Snoopy book collection by the wonderfully gifted Charles Schultz. I was so excited when they gave me my first set of books. The package came with a “special gift” that filled my heart with joy – a set of blue Snoopy book ends. I was over the moon to have my very own library. Shortly after, the Golden Books and the Dr. Seuss monthly collections arrived at our door.

My grandma not only taught me how to read, my grandma encouraged me to read. In fact, both of my grandparents fortified my voracity for reading. I have always been surrounded by books, comics and magazines. Reading has always been one of my absolute joys. It became both my sanctuary and my saving grace to escape from the chaos of my childhood when my grandma died.

I love to be swept away by remarkable storytellers to the enchanted lands they create and dazzling writers who spill their innards out on the written page; for me, one of life’s most reflective delights is to open a book and learn from its stirring pages. When I lose myself in a story no matter what form of writing it is, comics, lyrics, memoirs, novels, poems, or scripts; I don’t want to be amazed, I don’t want to understand, and I don’t want to grow…I DEMAND it!

With this segment, I will share some of my favorites, by phenomenal writers who have inspired my soul, revitalized my spirit and touched my heart.

SC DS

Synopsis: Titania Evans, as elegant as the models in her fashionable boutique… and heartsick. She loves her ex-husband Jeremy who wants an “open marriage” she cannot endure.

Then the dream man of her teens steps back into her life, and she’s suddenly living a mid-summer fantasy. On a bewitching South Pacific island, Acheson Lane appears as a bronzed god of the sea. Titania is his moonlight lady, jeweled with garlands of sea spray–until Jeremy arrives.

Torn, Titania can neither deny her love for Jeremy nor her passion for Acheson. But she must decide…
